A history we are proud of
A present to which we are committed
A future of which we are certain

Committing our resources now to ensure positive future outcomes.

We believe that a better tomorrow starts today. That is why we have embraced sustainability and have long term environmental practices at the heart of everything that we do. Our commitment to the present is absolutely resolute, and over the last several decades there has been a targeted focus on this, making sure that all of our business embrace environmental policies and standards.

A strong and healthy community creates the environment for businesses to also be strong and healthy. We have been fully committed to ensure all aspects of the community in the Top of the South are supported right since the beginning of the Bowater Motor Group in 1945. Every year we focus energy and resources into various aspects of the community, making sure that we are connected to what is important, and being very present with what matters.

Bowater Toyota and the Toitū Environmental Standards

Bowater Toyota has been involved with Toitū Envirocare, and the standards they offer, since the early 2010's, when they were called Enviro-Mark. We believed that it was not only important to be actively embracing sustainability, but we had to hold ourselves accountable by becoming part of a programme that ensured we maintained a level of excellence and commitment year on year.

Introducing the Bowater's Community Crew.

Giving back with the precious gift of time.

One of the greatest assets we have as an organisation is the sense of community and culture that has developed within the Bowater Motor Group of the past 4 generations.

Our team across the generations have also exhibited that same sense of community and we have made it a core part of the business to invest back into the community as much as we can.

This has taken many different forms over the years, with various members of the business taking a special interest in projects dear to their hearts.
This involvement have been very significant and we have over the years made a huge effort to support our team directly and indirectly with this.

It was with this philosophy that the BMG Community Crew was born mid way through 2016. It is a way for the entire Bowater Motor Group to give back in the best way possible, with the precious gift of time.

Each year every person in the entire group is granted a paid day to work alongside a charity or organisation of their choice.

This day is designed to enable those who make up our team to be totally committed in an area of personal interest, and be involved with the wider community, and to enjoy the pride and purpose that comes from helping.

Since it’s inception our BMG Community Crew have been involved in a wide range of projects, from working alongside the Mitre 10 Nelson Helping Hands team as they worked through a highly complex renovation to improve the home life better of a family with a high needs child. We have also helped with the Pigeon Valley Fires, planting out trees, time with the SPCA, working alongside DOC, helping out with Age Concern, and working with Riding for the Disabled.

The Bowaters Community Mini Bus

The BMG Community Mini Bus has been one of our most successful community outreach programmes we have invested into in recent times.

Our ability to provide a safe and fuel efficient 12 person Toyota Hiace Mini Bus free of charge to community groups, schools, sports teams and charitable organisations has enabled these groups to achieve more than they would ordinarily be able to do.

Since establishing this programme over the last decade, we have been connected with such a diverse group of people from every sector of the community. We have provided them with the ability to get around our vast region, or head away to various parts of the country and participate in all manner of events, championships and performances.

This programme has bought a lot of joy to the entire team at the Bowater Motor Group as it has enabled a direct connection into the stories, and lives, of the people who belong to these organisations.

From helping schools to transport their students to school camps or national sports tournaments, helping representative sports teams get to championships, making sure that the scouts get to jamboree, helping move the local youth military corps to Anzac Day memorials, helping to move vital volunteers around in local disaster events, through to great programmes run by Aged Concern where they enabled groups of isolated elderly to regularly get out and about, socialising and enjoying a wide range of activities; the BMG Community Mini Bus has literally been a vital community asset which we certainly do not take for granted.

The programme is a complex organisational feat and has required a large commitment of time and resources over the years. It is a vital part of our ability to give back to a community that has supported our businesses over all these years.

For a number of years now we have been using the phrase “Driving our Community Forward since 1945", and this philosophy is directly reflected in BMG Community Mini Bus programme.

We appreciate the work done out there in the community by these groups, and we are certainly very proud to help in our small way.
