Honda adds hybrid to all that Jazz

UNDER $30,000: The Honda Jazz hybrid's price should be sufficient to attract plenty of attention.

It doesn't seem that long ago - less than a year ago, in fact - that the motoring media was recording the fact that the price of hybrid cars had reduced to just above $30,000.

That price had been achieved by the Toyota Prius C, a small five-door hatch that entered the market for $30,990 for a steel-wheeled entry model through to $34,990 for a more highly specified s-Tech version.

Those prices were pretty impressive, the motoring media mused. They were certainly a lot less than the other hybrid fare available in this country, which ranged from $35,990 for a three-door Honda Insight through to $65,000 for a loaded Prius V wagon.

But now Honda New Zealand has gone one step better via introduction of a hybrid version of its Jazz hatch for under $30,000. Granted, it's only 10 bucks under at $29,990, but strategically it's all very significant because the car has broken through that magic mark.

Honda gives away another $2500 to local family

Local Upper Moutere couple Colin & Ruth Roberts have struck it lucky, to the tune of a cheque for $2500 from Honda New Zealand.

What did they have to do to win this sizable small fortune? Just take the all new Honda Euro Civic for a test drive. That is all.

The Roberts have been going through the process of upgrading their 2009 Honda Civic Sedan, so thought it best that they come in and give the new Honda Civic Euro a go as well. Aren't they lucky that they did, and they are in the draw to win a brand new Honda Civic Euro as well!

Honda unveils Urban SUV concept at Detroit

After scoring a hit with its CR-V compact SUV, Honda has offered a glimpse at what the automaker's new, even smaller SUV might look like when it hits streets.

The "Urban SUV Concept" made its debut during press previews at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Honda Motor Co. plans to launch a small SUV based on that concept vehicle in Japan by the end of the year and in the US in 2014.

The concept SUV is 22.86 centimeters shorter than the CR-V, and hidden rear door handles give it a smooth, coupe-like presence. When it goes on sale in the US it's expected to be priced below the existing CR-V, which starts around $22,700(US) for a 2013 model.

"We believe there is a good market potential for this vehicle," Tetsuo Iwamura, president and chief operating officer of Honda's North American Regional Operations, said in an interview with reporters at the show.

Chris Bowater presents the local mayors with another round of Honda TreeFund money

Bowater Honda CEO Chris Bowater (far right) was very happy to be able to present the Mayor of Nelson, Aldo Miccio (left), and the Mayor of Tasman, Richard Kempthorne (centre), with another set of Honda TreeFund cheques recently at the Bowater Honda showroom.

The Honda TreeFund is a fantastic initiative that enables our customers to become involved in the greening of our own local community and to encourage the planting of native flora.

It has been a very successful programme, with $70,000 funding provided in the Nelson - Tasman region, which equates to around 13,500 trees, and we are still planting!
